St Augustine's Church
Category(ies)
Join us for guided tours to learn the history of the building and our links to Swindon’s Great Western Railway. Visit areas of the church not normally open to the public, and hear demonstrations of the church organ in the wonderful acoustics.
St Augustine’s is one of the few churches in the south of England, and one of two in Swindon, built in the basilica style. On the tour you can learn why it was built, why it is smaller than intended, how we are linked to Sir John Betjeman & the Great Western Railway, and have a behind-the-scenes look in to the life of the church. Your chance to ask those ” I’ve always wanted to know…” questions!
The tour will also include a demonstration of the Organ, (a two-manual digital organ of 33 speaking stops), and a chance to look at some of the more interesting items in our archives.
Visitors will also be able to see our Hope Springs Eternal display, a community art project for the National Day of Reflection 2022.
The tour will last approx 45 mins, but visitors are welcome to stay as long as they wish.
