Here are some facts and figures about St Augustine's!

These figures are approximate until they can be measured properly!

Length of Church

(from West wall  of Parish Room to East wall of Apse): 130 feet

Width of Church: 42 feet

Height of Church: 50 feet

Height of Apse Arch: 32 feet

Number of Pipes in the old organ: 796

Length of Longest organ pipe: 16 feet

Number of Bricks in the church:

No one has actually counted them....but approximately 150,000

The font is an exact replica of the Norman font at St Leonard's Church, Stanton Fitzwarren dated c. 1180

The church is built on the site of old allotments

It is one of the few churches in the South West  of England built in the basilica style, and the only one in Swindon.

The church is probably half its intended size - the bell tower, aisles transepts and further side chapels were never built.

It was expected that the bell tower which was to be built would contain a ringing peal of bells.

The current bell weighs in at just under quarter of a ton.
